2022 Sakura flowering map by Yahoo Maps Japan
Yahoo Maps have launched a new seasonal feature for IOS and Android devices. This feature allows people to see what the sakura flowering situation is like at 1000+ various locations around Japan, excluding Okinawa Prefecture. The flowering status can be filtered into 7 different categories and 5 different pins.
According to the Japanese Meteorological Agency, the sakura season will start in Kumamoto from March 21st ,Kochi from March 22nd, Tokyo and Fukuoka from March 23rd.
To help people celebrate the sakura season , Yahoo collaberated with JR to create this feature on their maps. The flowering status is updated daily.
Yahoo Maps Japan Interface
To access this function you will first need to download Yahoo Maps (links here) then you flick up the “themed maps” option. From there, select the Sakura option (the pink square) and you should then see a bunch of buds on Japan. If you are unsure where the “themed maps” is, it is below the search box – just press and scroll up.
From there you can zoom in on any city to see a specific sakura point and click on it to see it’s flowering status as well as general information about the location.
Sakura Filters
You can filter the flowering status by selecting the button on the bottom left.
There 7 flowering filters from top to bottom
- Bud
- Beginning
to bloom - Half bloomed
- Mostly Bloomed
- Full Bloom/ Best time to see
- Beginning to fall
- The end
Currently most of Japan is still at stage 1 however there are a few places at stage 2
Location Information
Once you click on the bud you can get information about the location such as how to get there, what facilities the area has (carparks, toilets etc.) , the flower type, night viewing period, opening hours, and contact information.
According to their website , the sakura map feature will run until the end of May 2022. The IOS version is expected to be available at a later date.
